Welcome to a whole new way of learning mountain bike fundamentals! After some warming up, and a few quick lessons in body positioning, balance and changing gears to get you started, we will be hitting the trails and learning as we ride! Our new format is structured to allow you to practice what you are learning on the trails. You can expect to ride some easy-paced miles on beginner to beginner-intermediate trails with stops to learn skills such as terrain awareness, seated climbing, cornering with control, maintaining pedal cadence, and descending while coasting.

Students will experience learning in a fun, laid-back environment with small class groups and plenty of 1:1 instruction.

It is highly encouraged to take this class with flat pedals on your bike. If you do not have any, please let me know, and I can likely arrange for some for you to borrow for the clinic! Why flat pedals? A few different reasons. First, it allows you to quickly get on and off your pedals without worry of getting stuck while you’re learning new skills. In this way, you can focus on the skills you are learning and not on getting “clipped in” or “clipped out.” Additionally, it allows you some freedom to try things that you normally would not. Finally, it forces you to have good control and form on your bike. You can’t “cheat” when you are not mechanically connected to your pedals. Taking this class on flat pedals will help you build good habits and break any bad ones you may have formed.

You will need to bring a recently maintained mountain bike, a helmet, hydration, and your nutrition. I also encourage you to wear bike gloves, eye protection, and padded cycling shorts for comfort and protection. You are welcome to wear knee and elbow pads.

Please arrive at the clinic 30 minutes early to get ready and sign waivers.
